Sam Foti: Portrait of a Successful American
It seems that today there are coming all sorts of high gloss successful business people who are more about media savvy than they are about the good old fashioned hard work and social conscience that used to be part of what the American business person stood for. Samuel J. Foti is a triumphant exception to this rule, having worked very hard to see himself through to success. While his father before him had achieved success with his Hose Masters, Inc. company, young Sam was not content to ride anyone’s coat tails. He had ambition at Herculean levels and he was determined to keep his grades to the point that he could enter a terrific business school upon his high school graduation. His ambition paid off and he was accepted into the Wharton School of Business from which he graduated in 1974. While he could have studied at the University of Oxford since he passed admissions, he chose instead to pursue a Masters in Finance and Investing from the Graduate School of Arts and Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
With this serious and solid education under his belt, the next step was to pay his father back for the inspiration to pursue business. Sam Foti stepped in as President of Hose Masters and brought his education to bear in the real world setting, getting strong real world results for his efforts. To his father’s delight, Sam was able to take the company to the very forefront of the metal hose manufacturing industry and build a legacy for himself, as well, as one of the most innovative and revolutionary minds in the business world. His current position as President of the The MONY Group makes all the sense in the world once one understands where Sam came from. While he may have been given a great example by his father, it was up to him to live it out the way he has.
